Best New Course 1997 – SCOREGolf

"If the true test of a golf architect is versatility, then Canada's Thomas McBroom has moved to the head of the class." – Ron Whitten, Golf Digest

Lake Joe, as it's known, blends the best elements of cottage country golf with lovely views and an escape into pristine northern forests with the scale and quality of a premium, world-class course. Having successfully experimented with granite outcroppings at Deerhurst, McBroom pushed further at Lake Joe, uncovering the granite bedrock in the foreground between tees and fairways. He framed a number of greens and fairways with spectacular outcroppings, a look that has since become his design signature for northern courses. Running high above the lake, the course twists and turns through dense deciduous forest, careering down into natural valleys and up to a number of greens cut into hillsides. Bordered by woods and dotted with wetlands and creeks, Lake Joseph is a strategic shot-maker's course. ClubLink's flagship property in Muskoka, Lake Joseph spurred the development of Rocky Crest and Grandview Golf Club.
