One of Tom McBroom's earlier creations in Ontario's rugged Muskoka region, Port Carling is a complete test of golf in a wondrous wilderness setting within the historic town of Port Carling. Not long at just more than 6,300 yards, this compact par 72 layout is given its distinct character by McBroom's clever routing over a relatively limited acreage. The hallmarks are narrow tree-lined fairways and small greens, which give the course its teeth. More than 100 feet of elevation change thrusts the holes up and down over the heaving topography of the craggy Canadian Shield. Shot values are demanding, and every hole has a unique and dramatic personality.
